Inspired by Libraries!

Beautiful Mystery

I was inspired by these heartfelt expressions about libraries and librarians from best-selling Canadian author, Louise Penny, whose well-loved Inspector Gamache mysteries are winning the world over:

“Walked down to the Locke Library at the corner of Yonge and Lawrence in Toronto today – the… first library I ever knew. I was already in love with reading when I first visited the library as a child – but felt lost in the world. When I walked through the doors, and saw all the books – I knew I’d found home. Mecca. My church. For a pilgrim child that was a powerful homecoming. It was no less powerful today to return after forty years, a published writer. To stand there quietly and give thanks – for libraries and librarians. The nobility of that profession. To not just house and guard words – but to encourage them, value them, teach children that words and stories are comforting and company, are tender and powerful. They are life”.
Louise Penny…she “gets” it~

Meet Our New Adult Services Librarian!

Hello!  My name is Molly Klenowski, and I am the new Adult Services Librarian here at the Whitman Public Library.  I am also filling the role of Assistant Library Director.  I am very excited to be working for and with your community, which has been so welcoming.

A bit about me: I grew up down the road in Brockton, MA.  I had many friends who lived in Whitman, and as such I spent much of my adolescence ordering coffee at Marylou’s or ice cream from Peaceful Meadows.

I have been working in libraries and archives for the past 5 years. I began by interning at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, MA while an undergrad at UMass Amherst. After receiving my MLIS from Simmons College I worked at the Norton Public Library and the Brockton Public Library. I also assisted in the fundraising and groundbreaking of a free lending library for a village in Nicaragua, which was a wonderful experience.

In my role here at the Whitman Public Library, you can expect me to help you find books, movies, music, or any other material you may need or want. I will be conducting classes this summer about downloading library eBooks and using our databases.  I can show you how to navigate our online catalog, or help you conduct research.

Please stop in and introduce yourself!
