Important Sharp Collection Information

We are awaiting the arrival of a sharps container kiosk.  The sharps kiosk will be located in the lobby of the Whitman Police Station.  We hope to have the kiosk ready to take containers late July.  Please check back to this site or call the Board of Health office at 781-618-9755 to see when the kiosk is ready for use.  The kiosk will take 1 gallon or smaller puncture resistant containers such as the red sharps containers available at your local drug store.

Not allowed in the kiosk:

  • NO glass containers
  • NO plastic or paper bags
  • NEVER leave a sharps container outside or on top of the kiosk
The Whitman Board of Health has contracted with the Stericycle, Inc. to service the kiosk.  It is important all rules for using the kiosk are adhered to for the safety of those services the kiosk.  If you have any questions, please call the Board of Health at 781-618-9755.  Until the kiosk is ready, we will continue collecting the sharps containers at the Board of Health's office.

The Whitman Department of Public Works and the Whitman Board of Health reminds all Whitman residents that home sharps, as well as unopened packages of hypodermic needles and lancets, shall not be disposed of in solid municipal waste, including household waste.
