The Whitman Public Library has won an important grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
Officially titled “Libraries for Job Seekers,” the grant awarded to the Whitman Public Library in the amount of $6,566 has been used to equip local job hunters with valuable tools and programs. The community is invited to visit the library’s job resources section, to make use of information, including a subscription to “Entrepreneur’s” magazine, and other new books, audio books and videos on topics like job hunting, professional and personal development, and starting a small business.
The federal funds will also be used to schedule a variety of special programs that will help support patrons as they initiate and undertake all aspects of their job hunt. The library has also joined Metro South Chamber of Commerce, which will enable local patrons to make connections with local businesses.
